Description

This is a lamp post located on Ardington School Road, dating from the late 19th century. It features a cast-iron fluted shaft with a ladder support and a light cage. The installation of paraffin street lamps during this period was funded by profits from the "Boars Head" Public House in Ardington, as noted in M.A. Havinden's study of the Berkshire villages of Ardington and Lockinge.
