Description
House at 39 The Street, probably built in the mid 17th century, features late 20th century alterations and an addition on the right side. The house has a brick plinth on the left, with render likely applied over timber-framing, and a thatched roof that is hipped to the right over the 20th century addition. There is a rebuilt end stack on the left and a rebuilt ridge stack to the right of the center, both from the 20th century. Originally, the house had a two-unit plan and is a single storey with an attic. It has a two-bay range with a single-bay addition to the right from the 20th century. The entrance features a 20th century plank door to the left of center, with a sash door to the right. There are two-light wood casements to the left, a three-light wood casement in the center, and another two-light wood casement to the right. An eyebrow dormer is located in the center of the roof. Inside, there is a chamfered spine beam with jewelled end-stops on the left side of the ground floor, and another chamfered spine beam with ogee end-stops in the center. A 20th century staircase is present, and the queenpost roof with windbraces is visible.
