Description
Croft Lodge, located to the north of the A420, is a lodge for Buckland House, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a low-pitched, hipped roof covered with Welsh slate. The building has buff-coloured brick stacks and a small rectangular plan that faces the drive, with a later wing at the rear creating an L-shaped layout. Designed in a classical style, the lodge is single-storey with three bays; the central bay is advanced and features a pediment with a large round-arched niche that is plastered inside. There are 12-pane sash windows to the right and left of the niche. The doorway is located on the right-hand (south) side and includes a panelled and glazed door with a wooden porch, which likely dates from a later period, supported by fluted Ionic columns and pilasters, although its entablature has been replaced by a later canopy. The rear wing is two-storey. The interior has not been inspected.
