Description
The Forge House is a mid-17th century house located on Westbrook Street, Blewbury. It was originally two dwellings, later combined into a single property. The ground floor is constructed of brick, with some remaining fragments of timber framing above. The upper floor features timber framing with angle bracing and brick infill. The roof is covered with old plain tiles, and a brick stack is centrally positioned. The house likely began as a two-unit lobby-entry plan. It presents a two-storey, two-window front at a right angle to the street. A six-panel, part-glazed door is situated to the right of the centre, leading to a 19th-century lean-to porch. The windows are predominantly casements, with a horizontal sliding sash window to the first floor on the left side. The right return, facing the street, has a jettied first floor supported by curved brackets. At the rear, a stable door is visible on the left side, and the fenestration is generally regular with casement windows. Modern sloping roof rooflights have been added. The interior has not been inspected. A 20th-century two-storey addition to the left is not considered to have any special architectural merit.
