Description

Upper Whitley Farmhouse is an early to mid-17th century farmhouse, with alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble, with a gabled roof tiled in 20th-century tiles. The farmhouse has a stone end stack, finished in brick. The building originally comprised two units, and now has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The windows are a mix of late 19th and 20th-century casements, with chamfered timber lintels above them. There is a 20th-century door also with a chamfered timber lintel. Dormers have been added to the roof in the 20th century. A rendered 20th-century bay has been added to the right-hand side. The rear elevation has chamfered timber lintels over windows and a blocked doorway. Attached to the rear of the farmhouse is an 18th-century service wing constructed of limestone rubble, with a gabled roof of old tiles and a brick end stack. The interior features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and an open fireplace.
