Description

Westfield House is a farmhouse, later converted into a house, dating from 1733. It is located on the south side of Cumnor High Street. The main part of the house is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and has a gabled stone slate roof, with brick stacks at each end. The building originally comprised three rooms arranged in a row and presents a symmetrical facade with five windows on each floor. The windows are mullioned and wooden, dating back to the 18th century, except for a 20th-century replacement on the right-hand side. The windows are topped with flat stone arches on the ground floor and wooden lintels on the first floor. A gabled stone porch, also from the early 20th century, has been added to the front. A service range, built at the same time as the main house, stands to the left. This is constructed of limestone rubble with a gabled tile roof and has two windows on each floor. The rear of the service range also features similar mullioned windows. Inside, the house has early 18th-century panelled doors. A central staircase with turned balusters on the first floor remains.
