Description
27A East St Helen Street is a building that was originally part of No. 29. It likely dates back to the 17th century but was refronted in the 18th century using red and blue chequered brick. The structure has two storeys and attics, topped with a tile roof that features one gabled dormer. The windows are rendered casements, and there is a stone-capped parapet adorned with a modern pine cone ornament. A brick dentil cornice runs along the top. The 18th-century gauged brick flat arch above the window is framed by a wooden architrave, and the window itself is a double-hung sash with glazing bars. A brick band separates the storeys. The doorway is particularly attractive, featuring fluted pilasters with a panelled base, a broken pediment with a central modified plinth, and decorative acanthus and egg and dart ornamentation. The door consists of four fielded panels and two glass panels. Nos. 17 to 35 (odd) form a group with this building.
