Description

Nightingale Cottage is an 18th-century cottage with alterations and additions made in the early 19th century. It has brick walls and a low thatched roof. The windows are wooden casements, with a tiled roof over a one-room addition.

The cottage is one-and-a-half storeys high, with a central entrance leading to a longitudinal passage. The original house contains two main rooms on each floor, and an early 19th-century one-room addition extends to the north. This addition was further extended in 2003 with a bayed gable end. A central stack is present.

The west-facing elevation features a central doorway with a segmental head and plank door, flanked by segmental-headed windows (triple to the north and single to the south), and an early 19th-century triple round-headed window above. The first floor has a symmetrical pair of casement windows within eyebrow dormers. The early 19th-century addition has a pair of casements, and the 2003 extension has a gable end.

Inside, the cottage features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and early 19th-century fitted cupboards.
