Description
Lain's Barn is a mid-17th century barn with attached sheltersheds, now serving as a multi-use hall. The barn likely dates from the late 18th century, while the sheltersheds were added later, with some 20th-century alterations. The structure features a brick plinth and is constructed with timber-framing and weatherboarding, topped by an old plain-tile half-hipped roof. It has a six-bay aisled design, with 20th-century plank doors leading to a half-hipped midstrey located to the left of center. The rear aisle has 20th-century windows. Inside, the barn has double queenpost roof trusses on the left and queenpost roof trusses on the right, with queenstruts supporting the lower purlins, and two rows of purlins with windbraces. The L-shaped shelter-shed at the rear is also timber-framed with weatherboarding and an old plain-tile roof. Its interior features a queen-strut roof with some 20th-century timber, and part of the sheltershed has been converted into a dining area with late 20th-century sliding glass doors at the front.
