Description

This is a group of four chest tombs from the 18th century, located approximately 5 meters south and west of the Church of St. Leonard in Drayton St. Leonard. The tombs are made of stone and are rectangular in shape. One chest tomb, situated about 4 meters south of the church tower, is likely from the early 18th century and features a cyma recta moulded base, two fielded panels on each side, and single fielded panels at the ends. The corners have baluster moulding, and there is an inscribed panel on the west end with an inscription that is mostly illegible, likely from the 19th century.

Another chest tomb, dedicated to Francis Dandridge, is located approximately 6 meters south of the church, while a third tomb is about 3 meters west of the tower. This tomb also has a cyma recta moulded base and features three fielded panels on each side, with the center panel being wider. It has fielded panels at each end, except for one end of the Dandridge tomb, which has an inscribed panel that is mostly illegible and is adorned with a swagged surround and a winged head at the top. The final chest tomb is situated about 7 meters south of the tower and dates from the mid-18th century, featuring two fielded panels on the sides and single panels at the ends. Together, these tombs form a group around the southwest corner of the church.
