Description
Ancastle Cottage is a 15th to 16th century timber-framed house with colour washed brick infilling. It features an old tiled roof with a central chimney and stands two storeys high with an attic. The east front is symmetrical, showcasing three reproduction casement windows with leaded glazing on each floor. A small 18th century wing is attached, which has a modern entrance door. The cottage is beautifully located at the top of a hill.
The raised pavement and wall contribute to a group that includes Nos 5 to 19 (odd), the South Oxfordshire Technical College Old School and Main Buildings, Nos 43 to 49 (odd), and the wall and gate piers to the former Paradise House. Ancastle Cottage also forms part of a group with Nos 2 to 36 (even) and the pavement surface in front of those properties, as well as the entrance walls, piers, gates, and the lower lodge of Friar Park.
