Description
Fonthill Philomel is a late 19th century to early 20th century building located on Hop Gardens. It is constructed of red brick with the first floor featuring tile hanging. The roof is tiled and includes some fish scale bands. The building has an irregular plan with gables and very tall, elaborate chimneys that have heavy stepped brick cornices above string courses. It is 1.5 and 2 storeys high with attics, and features windows that are mainly leaded casements across a width of six bays. The door is adorned with a stone architrave and a dentil cornice, and the name of the house is engraved on a scroll below the cornice.
