Description

Rock House is a substantial house, likely dating from the early 18th century and refronted in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and a limestone front, and has an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The house follows a double-depth plan. The symmetrical front has three windows on each floor, with sash windows at ground and first floors, and a first-floor window in the returns to the gable stacks. There is a moulded wooden soffit to the eaves, ornamented with modillion blocks. The roof is hipped, with parallel spans at the rear. Linked projecting stacks on the left side wall contain a central arched entrance. Casement windows are at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. Group value derives from its contribution to the historic landscape.
