Description
No. 47 High Street is a shop and dwelling that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations from the 18th century. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with squared quoins, featuring timber framing and brick infill, topped with a plain-tile roof. It has a three-unit plan with three rear wings and stands two storeys high. The front façade includes a door to the right situated between shallow bay windows under a tiled canopy, while to the left there is a combined door and shop window. The narrow first-floor windows to the right and centre have been replaced by three-light 20th-century sash windows. The roof is hipped, and the end walls display signs of a former gable line.
To the left, there is a late 17th or early 18th-century timber-framed rear wing, which has been extended in the 20th century. The right side features an 18th-century rubble rear wing, with a rendered brick infill range. Inside, the timber-framed section has an internal gable with very small framing and a clasped-purlin roof; remnants of the former roof's pole purlins and some large flat joists can still be seen in the main range.
