Description
The King's Arms Public House is a public house built in 1756, as indicated by a datestone, with later alterations. It is constructed from limestone rubble, some of which is coursed, and features ashlar dressings. The building has a part old plain-tile roof with brick stacks and is designed in an L-plan with subsidiary wings. It has two storeys plus attics. The dated section has a plinth and a stone eaves cove, with an entrance located at the angle of the ranges that includes a 20th-century porch. Above the entrance, there is a 4-pane sash window with a keyblock and a 2-light roof dormer. On the opposite side, there are two 12-pane sashes. The gable wall facing the road features a 4-pane sash window to the left, a 6-row dovecote in the gable, and the datestone inscribed "TD/1756" at the apex. To the right, there is a two-storey range with a tripartite sash window next to the doorway and two 9-pane sashes on the first floor, which is likely from the early 19th century. At the rear, there are several gabled and hipped wings that are one storey plus attics, featuring 2-panelled shutters. Inside, there are remains of 18th-century plasterwork.
