Description

This is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with squared quoins, and has an old plain-tile roof with stone and brick stacks. The house follows a central stair plan and is two storeys high with attics. The front facade, which faces WHEATLEY CROWN ROAD, has three windows. A central six-panel door is set within a stone flat arch and covered by a moulded canopy. Flanking the door are two-light casement windows set within shallow segmental brick arches. At the first floor, a single light window sits between two two-light casements, all with brick dressings to their upper parts. Three roof dormers are visible. Stone outbuildings are located at both ends of the house. The rear elevation, facing the road, features two brick stacks set on gabled stone bases, and a plaque commemorating the 18th-century poet William Mickle’s residency. The interior has not been inspected. A date of 1791 is noted on the building.
