Description
Ambrose Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 17th century and 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from colourwashed limestone rubble and features squared quoins, topped with an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall. The front has four windows, with a central lateral stack flanked by large 20th-century bay windows on the ground floor. The first floor features two 20th-century casements on the right and another on the left, alongside a late 17th-century or early 18th-century cross window with leaded lights at the extreme left. There is a gable stack to the left. The double-span 18th-century rear wing to the left includes a plank door and three-light leaded casements on the side, as well as segmental-arched casements in the gable wall. Inside, the main range has been largely remodelled but still retains a wide Tudor-arched stone fireplace with recessed spandrels. The rear wing features a fireplace with a bressumer.
