Description
19, 21 and 23 Crown Road are three dwellings that date from the early to mid-18th century. They are built of coursed squared limestone rubble with timber lintels and have an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The buildings have a four-unit plan with a rear wing and are two storeys plus attics high. The front has five windows, with the left three bays being earlier and featuring a central carriage entry with old plank doors and flanking sash windows. There are three sashes on the first floor and two roof dormers. To the right, there is a two-window rubble extension with tall sashes and a central lateral stack. A lower rubble wing to the left has 20th-century windows and a hipped roof, connecting to a long rubble and tiled rear wing. The interior was not inspected. This building was formerly known as the Crown Inn, which was first recorded in 1554.
