Description
Walnut Tree Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century and 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with some brick dressings and features a thatched roof with brick gable stacks. The cottage has a two-unit plan that has been extended to three units and consists of one storey plus attics. The central entrance is a plank door, with a three-light casement window to the right and two dormers above; one dormer has a horizontal sash window, while the other features a three-light casement with diamond mullions. To the left, there is an 18th-century bay with a large three-light casement window, which has brick quoins and a segmental arch. Both ground-floor windows are fitted with plank shutters. At the rear, there are early oak casements with two and three lights that have reeded decoration. A stone and thatched former outbuilding, which is parallel to the house, has been linked and is now part of the dwelling. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a cambered bressumer that has carved chamfer stops, a beam with ogee stops, a timber-framed partition, plank doors, and a two-bay clasped-purlin roof with a queen-post truss.
