Description
The Orchard is a house dating from the 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. It is constructed from limestone rubble and features an old plain-tile roof with a brick ridge stack. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, it has been extended to four units and stands two storeys tall. The front has four windows, with a 20th-century bay window on the left. All windows have been altered and now contain 20th-century casements. The central stack has two diagonal shafts, and the left gable displays a datestone marked "1949". The entrance is located at the rear, almost in line with the stack. A 20th-century extension at the rear connects to an 18th-century outbuilding that includes a three-row dovecote. Inside, the large central stack features an open fireplace with a timber bressumer and a second fireplace with a chamfered brick arch at the rear. The right bay contains heavy chamfered and stopped joists, along with a full timber-framed end gable from an earlier house.
