Description
26 Upper High Street is a townhouse built in the late 18th century. It features a grey brick plinth and grey brick in header bond, accented with red brick dressings. The roof is slate, and there are brick stacks at each end. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range. To the left, there is a two-panel door with a fanlight, framed by painted stone Doric columns that support a cornice. To the right, a plank door leads to a passageway, also with a fanlight and a cambered brick head. The central window is a tripartite unhorned sash with glazing bars, set beneath brick flat arches and accompanied by wrought-iron railings at the base. The first floor has three 12-pane unhorned sash windows, each with brick flat arches above. The eaves are bracketed. Inside, there is a straight-flight staircase with winders, late 18th-century marble fireplaces on both the ground and first floors, and moulded plaster cornices in the front rooms on both levels.
