Description

This is a manor house, built in 1712, with extensions added in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with flared brick headers, some coursed clunch rubble, and has an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The building follows a double-depth lobby-entry plan.

The main front range has five windows and includes a datestone marking “D/WH/1712”. The central doorway is framed by an architrave with a canopy featuring key decoration and supported by console brackets. To the right of the door is a large canted bay window, and to the left are two three-light casement windows, all under segmental arches. The first floor has three corresponding three-light casement windows and two single-light windows. Three gabled dormers with 19th-century ornamental bargeboards are visible in the roof, with stacks positioned in line with the entrance and at the left gable. Parts of the left gable wall and the parallel rear range are of rubble construction with brick dressings and contain additional casement windows. All windows have leaded lights.

A hip-roofed extension, dating to approximately 1830, extends from the right end of the rear range. A garden wall, constructed in a header bond with red quoins and a dentil eaves course, runs from the right end of the house around the rear of a walled garden. This wall includes a two-storey canted bay window with sixteen-pane sashes and a dentil cornice. The garden is also partially enclosed by The Old Barn. The interior has not been inspected.
