Description
The Bridge and Causeway is a bridge and causeway built between 1814 and 1816 by Francis Sandys. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and coursed squared rubble. The central part of the bridge features ashlar with a segmental arch, a cornice, and a balustraded parapet situated between wide piers. On either side, the rubble sections contain two smaller arches, and a plain band along with a rubble parapet extends along the causeways. The western causeway curves to the north and has square ashlar piers that end the outward curving parapets, with a small arch located halfway along. The eastern causeway is straight, with the parapet curving outwards only on the south side, and it has a small arch at the eastern end. The inner faces of the main piers include recessed stone seats.
