Description
Nos. 3, 4, and 5 in School Yard are a house that has been converted into three cottages, dating from the 17th century. The building features a partly rendered facade with timber framing and brick infill, topped with plain-tile and corrugated-asbestos roofs, and a 20th-century brick ridge stack. It has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with attics.
No. 5, on the left, and No. 4 in the center both have small casement windows and 20th-century porches, with No. 4 retaining two old roof dormers. No. 3, on the right, is rendered and has an asbestos roof with two high-level casement windows. The roof is hipped on the right and half-hipped on the left, featuring a weatherboarded gable. There are additional casements and dormers at the rear, along with 20th-century stone extensions to the left of No. 5.
Inside, No. 3 is open to the rafters and was formerly used as a chapel for the school. It still has a painted charity board dated 1808.
