Description

This is a range of 17th-century terraced cottages located on Friday Street, forming a repeating street facade. The cottages are constructed with a painted brick wall over a flint base, with a projecting string course at first-floor level. They have an old tiled roof, with a higher ridge line centrally located. The buildings are two storeys high, and No. 23, said to be a former inn, has an additional attic with two dormers. There are a total of 14 windows; 6 are on the first floor and are heavy casements with small, barred panes. The ground-floor windows feature transoms and mullions, though some are 19th-century casements. A few windows contain reproduction casements with leaded glazing. The cottages generally have plank doors with small, bracketed, flat hoods above. The buildings are part of a group that includes Old Timbers, Friday Cottage, No. 73, Nos 4 and 6, No 10, Nos 14, 14A and 16, Nos 54 and 56, The Anchor Hotel, Baltic Cottage and Baltic House on the opposite side of the street.
