Description
The Bristol and West Building Society, located at 15 Market Place in Wallingford, is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of grey brick with red brick dressings, featuring a 20th-century purple brick parapet and a mid-20th-century plain-tile hipped roof.
It stands three stories tall and has a two-window range. The entrance includes a 20th-century glazed door topped by a blind round-topped tympanum, framed by a Bath stone surround with panelled pilaster strips that support a panelled arch featuring a triple keystone at the center. To the left and right of the entrance are 20th-century Venetian windows with horned sashes, lacking glazing bars, and surrounded by Bath stone with cambered rubbed brick heads. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors. The first and second floors also feature Venetian windows, but with unhorned sashes and Gothick glazing bars. There are flat brick bands between the first and second floors and at the eaves. The interior has not been inspected.
