Description
The former Lloyds Bank, located at No. 4 Market Place in Wallingford, is a house and bank building from the early 18th century, with later alterations. It features a rendered exterior, likely over brick, and a Welsh slate roof. The structure has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window range and quoins at both ends.
The entrance has 20th-century panelled double doors set within a porch that is flanked by Doric fluted half-columns and topped with a flat cornice. The windows include six-pane horned sashes, which have altered bottom panes, and plain surrounds with keystones on either side. There is a flat band between the ground and first floors. The first floor has a twelve-pane unhorned sash window with a false fan and reeded surround at the centre, flanked by twelve-pane horned sashes with plain surrounds and keystones.
The eaves are adorned with a dentil cornice, which also features on the cross-gable at the centre, complemented by a moulded plaster flower in the tympanum. Triangular pedimented full dormers with two-light casements are present on both sides. The ground floor has undergone 20th-century alterations to create a banking hall.
