Description

The Plough Public House is an 18th-century building located on the south side of Abingdon Road, Dorchester. Constructed primarily of coursed clunch rubble, largely rendered, it has an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. The building originally comprised three units with a rear outshut. It has one storey plus attics.

The original front elevation features an entrance positioned to the right of centre, with two casement windows to the left. A projecting lateral chimney is situated to the right, and a large gabled dormer is present. Rendered bays to the right and centre may be partly timber framed.

Alterations to the rear outshut have resulted in its raising, creating a double-gabled end wall which now serves as the front elevation. This front features a main entrance and four casement windows, all with brick segmental arches, one of which incorporates old leaded lights. The interior of the public house has not been inspected.
