Description
Cranmer Cottage, built in the early to mid-18th century, is a brick house with a clunch rubble plinth. The brickwork is in a Flemish bond pattern, with flared headers. The roof is covered in old plain tiles, and includes a brick ridge stack. The house follows a double-depth lobby-entry plan and has two storeys plus attics. The front façade, which has three window bays, features a plank front door, sheltered by a canopy supported on shaped brackets, positioned to the right of centre. Above the door is a storey band. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows under segmental arches, with a narrower eight-pane sash between them. The first floor has two 16-pane sashes flanking a narrow eight-pane sash, all under segmental arches. A large brick stack is located in line with the front door. The left gable wall facing the road has two segmental-arched sash windows and a gable casement. The rear wall has been pebbledashed and contains further casements. The roof to the lower rear section is formed of three parallel hipped spans. The interior was not inspected. Attached to the right side of the cottage, by a 20th-century porch, is a small, contemporary outbuilding constructed of rubble, with brick quoins and an old plain-tile roof.
