Description

This is an early 18th-century pair of cottages, now used as a single cottage, located on Middle Road in Stanton St. John. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with timber lintels and some weatherboarding, and has a thatched roof with a brick ridge stack. Originally, each cottage had a single-unit plan. The front elevation features plank doors alongside two-light casement windows, with small two-light dormers positioned above. The left end of the roof is hipped, covering a later outbuilding built of rubble and weatherboarding. Originally, a range extended further to the right, but this section was later removed, leaving a weatherboarded gable and raking rubble buttresses. The interior has not been inspected, but the external appearance remains largely unaltered.
