Description
No. 8 and 8B Castle Street is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the early 18th century, with early 19th-century additions to the rear left. The building is constructed of grey brick with red brick dressings and features an old plain-tile roof. There is a rendered brick stack on the left side.
The house is two stories high and has a three-window range. The entrance includes a six-panel door with a decorative fanlight and a Doric pilaster surround that supports an open triangular pediment. On both floors, there are 16-pane horned sash windows with cambered brick heads on the left and right. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors, and there is a 12-pane horned sash window with a cambered brick head in the center of the first floor. The eaves are finished with a flat brick band and a rendered parapet. The interior has not been inspected, and there is a 19th-century two-storey addition on the left side.
