Description
The chest tomb to the Button family, located in All Hallows Churchyard, dates from around 1795 and features later inscriptions. It is made of stone and has a rectangular shape. The plinth is adorned with torus and cavetto moulding. Each side has two rectangular panels that are flanked by cabled fluting, while each end has a single panel also flanked by cabled fluting. The tomb has a flat top. The panels are painted black with gold inscriptions. The panel facing the street commemorates Edward Button, who died during his term as mayor of the borough on August 7th, 1795, at the age of 63 years. Additional inscriptions for other members of the Button family appear on the other panels.
