Description

The Town Hall, built in 1887 by H.J. Tollit, features a free style design and is located on Thame High Street. It is constructed from red brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof with brick lateral stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window main front facing north-west. The central entrance consists of segmental-headed double part-glazed doors topped by a moulded stone segmental-arched head. On either side, there are single-light casements and casements with stone and brick relieving arches above.

The façade is enhanced by attached stone Ionic columns that support an inscribed panel between the ground and first floor, and all window openings feature three-light stone mullion windows. The ground and first floor windows on the left and right have horned sashes and segmental brick and stone relieving arches. Brick pilaster strips with flat stone banding frame the central windows on the first floor and attic, with stone panels positioned between the first floor and attic windows.

The attic is topped with an open pediment gable that includes a four-centre arched attic window breaking into the tympanum, flanked by stone half-obelisks. A clock turret with a lead spire is located at the apex of the building. The side elevations are two-storey with four-window ranges, featuring three-storey-and-attic staircase bays at one end. These elevations include arcades of four-centred arched windows and stone mullion windows in the staircase bays. The interior has not been inspected.
