Description

No 90, known as Rupert House and part of St John's School, is an early and later 18th century house. It features silver grey brick walls with red quoins and window dressings, and has an old tiled roof that is concealed by a parapet. The building stands three storeys tall, with a symmetrical front that includes three windows and a side door. There is a later 18th century extension to the north with two additional windows. A string course runs at the first floor level, plastered on the earlier part of the building. The main entrance has an arched door surrounded by an architrave, supported by engaged Ionic columns, and features a bolection frieze, a moulded bracketed cornice, and a pediment, all made of wood. A late 18th century fanlight is present above the entrance, and on the north side, there is an arched six-panelled door. The property is complemented by contemporary wrought iron area railings. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 70 to 102 (even) and the building at the rear of Nos 70 and 72, along with Nos 93 and 95 opposite, and Nos 1 to 11 (odd) and 15 to 25 (odd), Denmark House, Elm House, Rupert's Elm, Rupert's Guard, White House, the Obelisk, No 30, Northfield End, and Tarry's Cottage, Bell Cottage, and the Flat on Rupert's Lane.
