Description
Adwell Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early 18th century, with an extension added in the late 18th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond red brick featuring glazed headers and has a gabled Welsh slate roof with symmetrical brick end stacks. The building has a 2-unit plan that has been extended to form an L-plan, with a rear left wing. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window range. The entrance features a mid-19th century four-panelled door set in an early 19th century frame, complete with an overlight and hood. The windows on the ground floor are mid to late 19th century two-light casements with gauged brick segmental arches above, while the first-floor casements have gauged brick flat arches. There is a raised storey band and a coved plaster cornice. At the rear, there is a right outshut that adjoins a late 18th century rear wing made of random bond brick, topped with a gabled old tile roof and featuring a brick gable end stack. The interior has not been fully inspected but is likely to be of interest.
