Description
This is a group of three cottages, now four separate dwellings, located in Shirburn Street, Watlington. The core of the building dates back to the 17th century and was remodelled in the early 19th century. The left-hand side (numbers 24 and 26) has a roughcast exterior, while the right-hand side (numbers 22 and 22A) is constructed of early 19th-century Flemish bond brick with flared headers. The left side wall retains original square timber framing with brick infill. The roof is gabled and covered in old tiles, with brick stacks at the ends and internally. The building has a four-unit plan. The front elevation is two storeys high and originally had a two-window arrangement. Modern doors have been installed. The windows on the right-hand side include a late 19th-century two-light casement, one latticed, and a ground-floor canted bay with horned sashes, and a 3-light iron casement. Further modern doors and casements are present on the right-hand side. Inside number 26, there are chamfered beams and a queen-post roof with clasped purlins. Number 22 features timber framing with queen-post trusses in the side walls, along with chamfered beams. The building is included on the list primarily for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
