Description
Thame Lane Bridge is a Grade II listed structure built with largely original handmade red brick, arranged in English bond, although there are some later patches. The parapet coping is made of limestone.
The bridge features an arch with a span of approximately 48 feet (15 meters), which rises from concrete or concrete-faced brick footings that are flush with the sides of the embankment. The elevations of the bridge curve gently outward towards the terminating piers and include a stepped string course and parapets.
This bridge is one of only a few flying arches designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the early Great Western Railway lines.
