Description
The Pound Lock on Swift Ditch, built around 1620, features squared coursed stone sides with 19th-century red brick repairs. Although the gates are missing, some timber work is still visible. This lock was constructed as part of the Oxford-Burcot Commission, established by Acts in 1605 and 1624 to enhance the River Thames. It is one of several locks built during that period, including others at Burcot and Ditchley, which no longer exist. The tackle was dismantled in 1790 when Abingdon Lock was constructed.
