Description
The Coseners House, formerly known as "The Abbey," is an 18th and 19th century house consisting of two buildings. The main building, dating from the 18th century, is three storeys high and constructed of blue brick with red brick dressings. It features a parapet and a band between the storeys. There are three windows with red brick architraves, and the top floor has segmental arches with moulded wood flush frames and double hung sashes that include glazing bars. On the first floor, two three-light windows in segmental recesses flank a segmental arched window. The ground floor has two similar windows on either side of a six-panel door set in a panelled wood architrave, which is topped by a glass fanlight and a moulded brick pediment. To the right, there is a matching later extension.
The left wing of the building is two storeys high and made of red and blue brick from the 18th century. It has a parapet and cornice, a tile roof, three windows, a band between the storeys, and a cornice. The entrance features a nine-panel door in an architrave with a pedimented brick hood supported by consoles, and the left window has a flat arch with a double hung sash and glazing bars. To the right, there is a rectangular bay with a brick plinth, double sashes with glazing bars, and a wood bolection moulded frieze and cornice. A one-storey later addition with a hipped slate roof is located to the left, featuring double hung sash windows with glazing bars in elliptical recesses and a red brick architrave. The garden elevation has two gables. Inside, there is a staircase and gallery with alternate straight and spiral turned balusters, along with panelled walls.
