Description

The Unicorn Theatre, located at 1 Thames Street, is a Grade I listed building. Originally part of the Abbey remains, it features an elevation known as "The Checker." The theatre has a higher roof than the adjacent No. 18 and is constructed with tiles. It includes two arched doorways, one of which has a lancet-headed door, and is a single storey structure. There are three two-light mullion windows with flat arches. A brick step leads to the door. The interior was formerly the Checker Hall and later converted into a block of cottages before being transformed into an 'Elizabethan' theatre with an apron stage. The listed buildings along Thames Street are recognized as a group for their historical significance.
