Description
Church Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, which was refaced and had a bay added to the right around 1830 to 1840. Originally timber-framed, the front is constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers, topped by a gabled thatch roof. It features a brick ridge stack and a mid-19th century stack on the left end. The house has been extended from a two-unit to a three-unit plan, comprising one storey and an attic, with a three-window range. There are segmental arches over a late 19th century door that has a thatched hood, along with horned sash windows and three-light casements. At the rear, there is a rendered outshut from the 19th century. Inside, the property boasts chamfered ogee-stopped beams and a timber-framed rear wall. Winder stairs are located next to a large stack that has a late 18th to 19th century surround to the fireplace. The roof structure consists of a three-bay queen-post design with windbraces and a central timber-framed partition.
