Description

No. 72 Woodstock Road is a building dating from around 1850. It is constructed of coursed rubble, with some areas rendered, and features ashlar dressings and quoins. The building has two storeys, sash windows, canted bays, and a hipped slate roof. Notably, it is listed for the ceiling of a room added to the north side around 1900. This ceiling, originally from a corner building at the junction of Cornmarket Street and High Street (which was demolished in 1900), is decorated with fleur-de-lys, crowned double roses, and pendants. The frieze, featuring vine leaves and mermaids, is also intact. The entire ceiling appears unaltered and is in good condition.
