Description
Halford House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble, partly rendered, with timber lintels, a concrete plain-tile roof, and brick gable stacks. The building has a two-unit plan with a stair tower and stands two storeys plus attics high. The two-window front faces the garden and features a door to the right of centre, with 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors, some of which have been reduced in width. There is a 19th-century brick gable outshut to the right. The gable walls contain attic casements and other blocked windows. At the rear, a central gabled stair tower contains the current entrance. Inside, there is a timber-framed cross partition with elaborately-moulded jowled posts, and a timber-framed partition to the tower with paired chamfered door frames on all floors. The beams are chamfered and have stops. The walls and tower show signs of having been raised from two storeys, likely in the early 18th century.
