Description

Primrose Cottage is a small house dating from the mid-to-late 17th century with alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built of colourwashed limestone rubble, some squared and coursed, with timber lintels, and has a thatched and old plain-tile roof. The house has a two-unit plan, with a later extension. The two-storey, three-window front has earlier thatched bays to the right, containing a plank door between two-light casement windows, and small-pane casements of two and three lights at the first floor. A tiled bay to the left has casements with brick jambs. Irregular casements are found at the rear. Inside, a large chimney is located on the right, with a built-up fireplace and a flanking rear lobby. There is a jowled post with an ogee moulding, a central timber-framed partition possibly forming the end wall of an earlier house, and a blocked wood-mullion window at the first floor.
