Description
29 and 29A Holywell Street is a house dating from the early 17th century, with 18th century additions and a refronting likely from the 18th to 19th century. It is three storeys high, with rubble in the cellars and attics in the gables. The attic floor is made of stone, while the rest is covered with late stucco. The west side features rubble, and at the back, there is a large chimney stack with a modern red brick shaft.
On the first and second floors, there is a moulded stone course. The ground floor has a dripmould and an 18th century three-light bay window in a reeded wood frame, which extends through the first and second floors. The doorway has a reeded wood frame with a rectangular fanlight above it. To the east of the bay window, there are restored two-light stone-framed casement windows on the first and second floors. In the gable, there is a three-light stone-framed window with a dripmould.
Inside, the house includes a 17th century staircase and three contemporary fireplaces. All the listed buildings on the north side of Holywell Street form a group.
