Description
No 28 on Holywell Street is a house built around 1661, although its front has been remodeled. It is a three-storey structure with stuccoed timber framing set on a stone base, featuring cellars, a moulded eaves cornice, a parapet, and brick stacks. The front doorway is flanked by splayed bay windows that extend to the second floor, with sashes that have glazing bars in moulded and reeded wood frames. The doorway itself has an early 19th-century reeded frame and architraves, topped with a rectangular panel. At the back, the walls are made of ashlar, and there is a rainwater-head dated 1662. Inside, the house includes contemporary panelling, a fireplace with an overmantel dated 1661, and a late 17th-century staircase. This building is part of a group of listed buildings on the north side of the street.
