Description

Burdrop House is a house with origins in the 17th century, significantly altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of squared coursed ironstone, with regular coursed ironstone rubble and coursed rubble to the sides and rear, and has a slate roof. Stone coped gables feature moulded kneelers, while the ridge and ends are marked by renewed brick stacks. The house has a three-unit plan, plus a single-storey washhouse projecting from the rear. The three-storey front elevation has a three-window range; the rear elevation has two entrances with French doors. The front has mullioned and transomed windows, alongside casement windows, all with wooden lintels around the ground floor. The first floor has three two-light wood mullioned and transomed windows with wood lintels. The attic has two-, three- and four-light wood casements. Wrought-iron fasteners are a feature. A two-light stone mullioned window is visible in the cellar. Inside, a staircase dating from around 1800 is of closed well design. A wooden winder stair rises from the first floor to the attic. The house also contains an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, slap-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, plank doors with H-L hinges, and a 19th-century king strut roof.
