Description
74 and 76 Church Street are two houses dating from 1778, as indicated by the datestone. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble and feature a gabled stone slate roof, with the rear half covered in 20th-century plain tiles. The houses have brick stacks at the ends and along the ridge. The layout is a three-unit plan with a rear outshut, and the buildings stand two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a three-window range.
There are keyed flat stone arches above the 20th-century doors located to the left and right of the centre, and these doors are topped with bracketed pediment hoods that feature 17th-century reset carved tympana. The windows include late 19th-century two- and three-light casements with glazing bars, also set beneath keyed flat stone arches. The properties have three gabled roof dormers.
Inside, No. 76 includes a chamfered beam and an open fireplace with a chamfered wooden bressumer. No. 74 has not been inspected but is likely to have interesting features as well.
