Description
Ilbury House is a substantial house, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later remodeling and extensions from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The building features part-stuccoed coursed squared marlstone with some ashlar dressings and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with brick stacks. It is designed in an L shape and has two storeys plus attics.
The main section of the house has a symmetrical stuccoed front with five windows, each fitted with 12-pane sash windows. There is a central six-panel door with an ornamental overlight and a fine panelled canopy supported by scrolled brackets, featuring a dentil frieze. Most of the stucco architraves have been renewed and altered, except for the doorcase. The roof is adorned with a moulded wooden eaves cornice and stone gable parapets that have projecting moulded kneelers. It includes five hipped roof dormers with 6-pane sashes and extends to the right over an 18th-century stone bay, which features a depressed-arched carriage entry beneath an ashlar band, along with leaded three-light casements on the first and second floors. A rear wing extends from the left side of the main structure. The interior has not been inspected.
