Description

The Miller's House is a late 16th-century millhouse, with a late 17th-century extension, heightened in the 19th century to the left, and early 19th and 20th-century extensions to the right. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled thatched roof, and stone slate roofs to the extensions. A stone stack, finished in brick, is located at the left end.

The building has a two-unit plan and two storeys with a three-window front. A central 18th-century panelled door is now blocked. A modern doorway is located to the right. There are 20th-century three-light casement windows to the left side, and on the first floor, an 18th-century two-light leaded casement and a wood-mullioned window with leaded-lights. Two-storey, one-bay extensions project to the left and right. At the rear, the late 16th-century range includes an 18th-century four-panelled door (with two glazed panes) and a stair-outshut to the left; a 20th-century extension is located to the rear of the right wing.

The interior features chamfered beams with heavy joists in the room to the left. The room to the right has mid-18th-century panelling above a mid-18th-century fireplace with a beaded architrave. The room to the left contains carved brackets supporting a beam above a blocked open fireplace with a wood bressumer and a reset 17th-century ovolo-moulded stone fireplace. There is also a 17th-century ribbed door. A central, transverse late 16th-century timber-framed partition has a blocked doorway with an arched head. The roof is an original late 16th-century three-bay collar-truss roof with butt purlins. A late 17th-century stop-chamfered beam is in the room to the left.
